TOPICS INCLUDE:

November 5th: Stages of Change | Motivational Interviewing: It can be difficult to support another person when we want them to change but perceive that they do not want change for themselves. This workshop teaches about the stages we go through to achieve behavior changes, how to identify what stage a person is in, and what support is needed in each stage. We also learn tools from Motivational Interviewing on how to promote clarity, confidence, and commitment to accomplishing change.

November 19th: Power, Privilege, and Difference | Boundaries: The sex trade is built on power dynamics. Survivors often experience a lack of agency and have to fight to gain power: with buyers, traffickers, and society. Working at an organization automatically puts us in places of power. Life circumstances also increase the privileges we experience. This workshop looks at personal power, privilege, and biases and considers ways to empower others and build trust, even through the most difficult task of establishing equitable boundaries.

December 3rd: De-escalation | Trauma-Informed CareCommon symptoms of trauma include: anger, manipulation, distrust, disinterest, and more. Rather than seeing these behaviors as "frustrating", we need to reframe our perspective to recognize them as "trauma responses." This session will teach about various trauma responses, how to respond to them, and how to de-escalate behaviors in order to establish safety for everyone involved.
