This page looks at two types of data: cases filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (KCPAO) and service provider data gathered by Dr. Debra Boyer.

These two data sources highlight the gender and racial inequality that is inherent in the commercial sex trade and sex trafficking of minors in King County, Washington.

Specifically, by looking at the types of cases filed by the KCPAO, demographic information for defendants and victims, and how King County jurisdictions are holding sex buyers and traffickers accountable, this data highlights the various racial and gender disparities in CSEC here in King County, Washington.

Service provider data gathered by Dr Boyer in 2008 and 2019 also highlight the disproportionately high numbers of youth of color who have experienced CSE in King County, Washington.

June 2008, Dr. Debra Boyer published “Who Pays the Price? Assessment of Youth Involvement in Prostitution in Seattle”. In this report, Dr. Boyer estimated there were 250 children (under the age of 18) involved in prostitution annually in the Seattle area.

In November 2019, Dr. Debra Boyer published “Commercially Sexually Exploited Children in Seattle/King County 2019 Update”. In this follow up report, Dr. Boyer found an incidence number of 231 children (under the age of 18) who had been trafficked in 2018 in the Seattle area. Brief Updates can be found in StolenYouth’s Call to Action.
