Fostering Exploitation: Connecting the Child Welfare System and the Commercial Sex Trade

Join the World Without Exploitation (WorldWE) Youth Coalition on Thursday, January 23rd at 6:00 pm Eastern for Fostering Exploitation: Connecting the Foster Care System and the Commercial Sex Trade. This conversation will unpack the systemic vulnerabilities that link the foster care system to commercial sexual exploitation, examining how poverty, systemic neglect, and insufficient resources continue to put foster youth at risk. We’ll explore critical topics such as the disproportionate impact on marginalized communities, the unique risks for foster youth, and the challenges faced by those aging out of care. Moderated by World Without Exploitation Youth Coalition Internal Education Coordinator Alexandria Smith, our conversation will feature Melanie Thompson, Outreach and Advocacy Coordinator for the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women; Elizabeth Stein, Survivor Mentor and Child Policy Associate for Project PROTECT, Support Center for Child Advocates; and Selina Higgins, Executive Director, NYC Administration for Children’s Services, Office of Child Trafficking Prevention and Policy.
