María E. Garay-Serratos’, MSW, PhD, life mission is to create global awareness and call to action to address the unrecognized and hidden domestic violence-traumatic brain injury and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (DV-TBI/CTE) pandemic, disproportionately impacting disenfranchised communities. Catastrophically, most DV-TBI/CTE victims and survivors are unaware or undiagnosed leaving them in the darkness about how their symptoms are severally impacting parenting, family and home life, and overall daily living. Dr. Garay-Serratos is a first-generation Mexican immigrant with a compelling DV-TBI/CTE personal story and over 25 years of C-level non-profit experience. Currently, she is the Founder and CEO of Pánfila DV HOPE Foundation and Protagonist, Associate Producer, and DV-TBI/CTE Expert Consultant for This Hits Home, a feature documentary released in May 2023 that reveals the DV-TBI/CTE epidemic in the United States. Her story has also been widely featured by NPR, The Los Angeles Times, The National Desk-Spotlight on America, Boston University CTE Center, Concussion Legacy Foundation, and other media and social media outlets. She received her BA from Pitzer College and master’s and doctorate from the University of Southern California Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work.
