Intersecting Identities: Neuro and Gender Diversity

Amy Cannava (she/her/hers)

Neurodiverse persons, particularly those on the autism spectrum, are more likely to be gender diverse than their neurotypical peers. While science has yet to discover why these intersections occur so frequently, it is surmised that neurodiverse persons are less cognizant of or susceptible to societal pressures and gender norms (National LGBT Health Education Center, 2020). This workshop will provide an overview of the intersection between gender and neurodiversity as well as findings of current research, with a focus on actionable steps attendees can take to support this population.
