Overdose Prevention Sites are slowly gaining traction in communities throughout the United States as an emerging and highly effective method of harm reduction. These sites allow people who use drugs to do so in a safe, compassionate environment where they can access medical care, including life-saving interventions like naloxone, as well as be connected to other critical resources, including service providers working to prevent violence and exploitation.
This webinar will provide an introduction to the history of Overdose Prevention Sites, the data that exists on their effectiveness in reducing the stigma and criminalization associated with street-based drug use, and current legislative efforts to pilot Overdose Prevention Sites here in Maryland. We will also consider the use of these spaces as an exploitation and violence prevention tool for drug users. The HTPP is excited to welcome Rajani Gudlavalleti and Cola Anderson from the Baltimore Harm Reduction Coalition as our guest presenters for this event.
The Human Trafficking Prevention Project (HTPP) is a partnership between the University of Baltimore School of Law and Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service. For more information about this webinar or the HTPP, please contact htpp@mvlslaw.org or visit www.mvlslaw.org/ht.
