Training Synopsis: This two-part workshop will discuss best practices for working with survivors of commercial sexual exploitation during their journeys through trauma, addiction, and
recovery. Utilizing a trauma-informed and survivor-centered framework, we will explore various evidence- and practice-based methods for assisting individuals in moving from a state of self-protection and survival to one of transformation and growth.
Part I of this training will enhance the participant’s ability to:
➢ Describe the barriers that survivors of sexual exploitation face when accessing recovery services, including those often perpetuated by the service provider/agency.
➢ Identify and analyze the behavioral tendencies that impact provider/participant interactions
utilizing a trauma-informed, survivor-centered lens that is based in neuro- and -behavioral science.
Part II of this training will enhance the participant’s ability to:
➢ Recognize the interrelationship and overlap between CSE, complex trauma, substance use, and addiction.
➢ Incorporate effective creative techniques that work to widen an individual’s window of tolerance and provide coping mechanisms for when the individual is functioning outside
of that window.
